The Virgin of Guadalupe is queen of the heavens she stands on the moon and her cloak holds the stars. She first appeared in Mexico in 1531 and, as proof, caused roses to bloom at the site. Named Patron Saint of the Americas by Pope John Paul II, she is a beloved manifestation of the Catholic faith. Alberto Torres portrays her in the style of the Cuzco School, replicating colonial paintings found in the city's convents. He presents the work in an elaborate frame of carved cedar wood with bronze leaf. Titled "Virgen de Guadalupe" in Spanish.
